Carving A Path This trilogy of images traces the path of the Colorado River as it carves its way south through eastern Utah . Immediately evident is the extremely rugged maze of canyons and plateaus that the river flows through. Central to this image is the grand loop, where the river has carved a path approximately 1100 feet deep as it winds first to the east, then curves back to the west. The red along the river is vegetation as mapped using near infrared sensors that detect chlorophyll concentrations. This Image was acquired by the ASTER satellite sensor. The three images are centered at 38.14.03 degrees N latitude, -109.48.30 degrees W longitude. North is to the left.
